Legility Uses Analytics to Decrease Data Volume by 99% on ERISA Matter

Legility was engaged by a large company facing allegations of ERISA violations and needed to determine whether there was merit to claims about undisclosed investment expenses and risks. To prepare for review, Legility collected 1.9 million documents from 17 custodians and used Relativity’s Early Case Assessment workspace along with analytics to triage the dataset and focus on the most relevant material.

Using Relativity’s tools — search-term analysis in ECA, email threading, and Assisted Review — Legility refined search terms to cut the set by ~77%, removed 125,000 duplicate emails via threading, and trained Assisted Review to classify documents automatically. The workflow reduced the review universe from 1.9 million to about 49,000 documents (a >99% reduction), saving the client 7,739 review hours and $348,261 in costs. Relativity’s platform enabled the significant time and cost savings.
