Complete Discovery Source (CDS), a global e-discovery provider, was engaged in a federal financial-services fraud investigation with a 500-custodian, 6 TB (42.5 TB decompressed) data universe comprising 22 million files and a 45-day collection window. Processing everything was impractical, so CDS turned to Relativity’s Collection product—using the scout feature—to get a “10,000‑ft” summary view of folders, file names, and system metadata to defensibly narrow scope before processing.

Using Relativity Collection’s scout, custodian portal, and remote collection options, CDS worked with custodians to map the data, identify 22 relevant custodians, and coordinate 44 collections (including supplemental backup tape data) into Relativity Processing. The effort completed in four weeks and reduced 22 million files to 100,000 for processing—cutting potential processing costs by 95%—while maintaining a forensically sound, auditable workflow.
