Controlling complexity and dynamics in the Oosterweelverbinding project

Beheersmaatschappij Antwerpen Mobiel NV (BAM NV) is the client-manager for the Oosterweelverbinding project to complete Antwerp’s R1 ring road, including a new Schelde tunnel and tunnels under the Albert Canal. The project is highly complex—built in a dense urban environment, requiring careful integration with existing infrastructure and frequent design changes driven by politicians, residents and permit processes—which made clear, unambiguous and traceable requirements essential.

BAM NV implemented Relatics in a dedicated environment to capture requirements, risks and intersections, map change effects and centralize project information. This structured approach made stakeholder impacts transparent, sped up responses, saved time, and provided a user-friendly, auditable record across design, execution and maintenance—helping BAM NV remain demonstrably in control and enabling future contract management and handover.
