U.S. Energy Information Administration - Customer Case Study

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) needed a free, transparent platform to present national oil and gas well activity so users could view and compare well-level data without visiting each state's site or purchasing costly commercial databases. REI Systems was contracted to build the National Oil and Gas Gateway (Gateway) to provide a consolidated, customizable, and user-friendly interface for querying and downloading standardized well data.

REI Systems delivered the Gateway in six months using Angular2 and OpenLayers on the front end and ElasticSearch and Node.js on the backend, following agile delivery practices. Since the summer 2017 launch, 10 of the country’s 34 oil- and gas-producing states now require monthly submissions to Gateway, additional states have expressed interest, and the platform—also supporting the Groundwater Protection Council—serves government agencies, environmental groups, industry, analysts, researchers, and students at no cost.
