ShareChat reduces cloud costs by 70% with Redpanda BYOC

ShareChat, India’s largest social media platform with 350 million+ monthly active users, needed a better way to handle massive event streaming volumes for user engagement, ad analytics, and recommendation systems. Its existing Google Pub/Sub setup was becoming expensive, operationally complex, and harder to scale during traffic spikes. Redpanda Data provided a Kafka-compatible alternative through Redpanda Cloud BYOC.

Using Redpanda BYOC on GCP, ShareChat simplified its streaming architecture and gained better observability, stronger control over data, and easier scaling for high-traffic events. The results were substantial: cloud infrastructure spend dropped by about 70%, throughput reached 3 GBps and roughly 5 million messages per second on fewer than 40 nodes, and developer productivity improved by 10x, all while supporting seamless scaling with no downtime.
