Case Study: Brex streamlines API documentation and developer onboarding with Redocly

Brex, the fintech company behind corporate cards, business accounts, and expense software, wanted to launch its first external API and needed a better way to onboard developers and document it. Its existing API docs tool had incomplete OpenAPI support, a clunky publishing process, and limited customization, which forced manual intervention and slowed the team down. Brex chose Redocly for its developer portal and API documentation workflow.

With Redocly, Brex built an automated GitHub-to-docs pipeline on a familiar React-based stack, using OpenAPI 3.0 as the source of truth and MDX for developer guides. The result was a lightweight, fast-moving docs process with minimal manual work, including about 4 minutes from pull request merge to production and 4 production deployments per week. Redocly helped Brex keep its API reference current, reduce friction for engineers, and deliver on-brand developer onboarding quickly.
