HackerRank, the technical assessment and hiring platform, needed a fast, scalable, and reliable data layer that required minimal maintenance so its small DevOps team could stay focused on innovation. It also needed a real-time leaderboard capable of handling heavy traffic during large coding events, and turned to Redis Cloud from Redis to support those demands.

Redis consolidated HackerRank’s multiple data-layer tools into a unified platform, using Redis Cloud for caching and real-time database needs, plus RedisJSON and RedisBloom for live execution status and leaderboard functionality. The result was low-latency performance at scale, with Redis handling 20,000+ simultaneous coding tests and tens of thousands of submissions per minute while reducing maintenance overhead for HackerRank’s team.
