How Netmeds switched from Elasticache to Redis Enterprise and achieved zero downtime

Netmeds is an Indian omni-channel online pharmacy whose rapid marketing-driven growth caused huge traffic spikes that overwhelmed its AWS ElastiCache instance. The ElastiCache Redis was choking on too many connections, causing hourly outages that cost roughly 750 orders every 30 minutes; Netmeds’ PHP platform also prevented a native Redis clustering fix, and proxy-based connection pools lacked full command support.

Netmeds engaged Redis Labs and migrated caching and session stores to Redis Enterprise in under three weeks, using Redis Enterprise’s connection pool manager to handle all Redis commands and sit behind the web app servers on AWS. The switch delivered the required high availability and performance for hundreds of thousands of daily users, eliminated downtime (zero outages since deployment), and set the stage for future clustering and sharding.
