Etermax Scales its Popular Gaming Platform with the Continuous Availability of Redis Enterprise

Etermax, the studio behind hit games like Trivia Crack and Pictionary, outgrew its open-source Redis setup as user numbers exploded—adding millions weekly. Single-threaded Redis created CPU bottlenecks, pre-sharded memory limits capped scaling, and the cost of maintaining fully redundant infrastructure made high availability impractical.

Deploying Redis Enterprise in its VPC solved those limits: auto-sharding, auto-scaling and multiple instances per server let Etermax scale to 25 million daily users with no downtime, while in-memory replication and auto-failover improved reliability. The change increased server throughput (up to 95% CPU utilization), cut AWS infrastructure costs by about 30%, and opens the door to up to 70% additional savings by moving cold data to flash.
