Yale-NUS College Builds Software-Defined Datacenter

Yale-NUS College, Singapore’s first liberal arts college with a residential program, needed a flexible, cost-effective IT foundation for teaching, administration, and research. With a small IT team and changing future demands, the college turned to Red Hat for a hybrid cloud and software-defined datacenter approach using products such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure.

Red Hat helped Yale-NUS College build the new environment on commodity Dell hardware, enabling faster provisioning, easier customization, and better resource use. The project cut new server installation time from days to one or two hours, reduced capital requirements by limiting specialized hardware, and allowed just nine staff members to manage the infrastructure, helping Yale-NUS do more with less.
