A Red Hat Case Study
Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, a global center for genomic discovery, needed a more flexible IT environment to support massive data analysis and collaboration across researchers, startups, and scientific partners. Its older clustered infrastructure could not easily provide secure, on-demand access to resources or support a new Science-as-a-Service model.
With help from Red Hat, the institute deployed Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Consulting to build a hybrid cloud service catalog and unify management across environments. Red Hat enabled faster access to computing resources, improved collaboration and reproducibility, and provided expert implementation support; the platform now serves five tenants, with capacity including three petabytes of storage, 6,000 cores, and 100GbE networking, and is expected to expand to nine more tenants.
