Warwickshire County Council Refreshes Virtual Datacenter with Red Hat

Warwickshire County Council, the top-tier local authority serving around 548,000 residents, needed to refresh its aging virtualization environment to better support new online public services while operating under public-sector budget pressures. Working with Red Hat, the council aimed to move from an older Xen-based setup to a more modern platform using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Red Hat Satellite.

Red Hat helped Warwickshire County Council implement a new KVM-based virtualization environment with improved automation, easier management, and a more user-friendly GUI for administrators. The project reduced the number of physical servers needed, improved resiliency with failover to a secondary site, and sped up recovery and patching; by mid-year, about 40 of more than 150 VMs had already been migrated, with dev/test systems moving in under an hour in some cases.
