University of Stirling chooses Red Hat Enterprise Linux for applications and Intel Itanium 2-based servers

The University of Stirling struggled with slow performance on legacy HP-UX UNIX systems supporting SAP HR and payroll, especially during heavy reporting periods. To address the issue, the university worked with Red Hat and its partner Abtech Computer Services UK, using Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the platform for a critical business application upgrade.

Red Hat helped Stirling migrate to a two-tier setup with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for the application tier and HP Integrity and ProLiant servers for improved scalability and flexibility. The result was at least a three-fold performance increase, payroll reports dropped from 80 minutes to 12 minutes, and annual support costs fell from £4,500 to £2,600, cutting total project costs by about half.
