Case Study: SVC achieves secure, stable healthcare e-card operations with Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform

A Red Hat Case Study

Preview of the SVC Case Study

SVC and Red Hat Secure Austrian Healthcare E-Card System

SVC, the Austrian Social Security Chipcard Provider and Operator, needed a secure, scalable way to run its national e-card healthcare system across thousands of GINA boxes and healthcare locations. The challenge was to replace an aging IBM WebSphere-based setup with a more stable, supported platform that could meet strict security, availability, and data protection requirements. Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform was chosen as the core software and service platform.

Red Hat implemented JBoss EAP to standardize application development and centrally manage the e-card application on about 11,000 GINA boxes. The result was a more efficient, easier-to-administer infrastructure with encrypted communications, regular updates, and strong support for sensitive medical data. Red Hat helped SVC achieve long-term stability, improved security, and smoother rollouts, with updates completed overnight every six months across the installed base.
