A Red Hat Case Study
Sprint, a telecommunications company in Overland Park, Kansas, was burdened by costly, proprietary middleware from Oracle WebLogic and IBM WebSphere, along with high licensing and maintenance fees that limited flexibility and slowed IT progress. The company turned to Red Hat, using JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and related Red Hat services to move toward an open source, lower-cost infrastructure.
Red Hat helped Sprint replace its legacy middleware with JBoss Enterprise Middleware and migrate applications to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, supported by Red Hat Consulting, Training, and Operations Network. Sprint has migrated 57 critical applications so far and expects to move more than 100 in total, while saving more than $4 million annually, improving developer productivity, and reducing time-to-market for Sprint products.
