A Red Hat Case Study
Seneca College, one of Canada’s largest colleges, needed to simplify a complex, costly IT environment that was slowing delivery of its learning management system and other services. Running multiple Linux distributions plus proprietary Oracle Solaris on SPARC hardware created high costs, inconsistency, and limited flexibility for students and faculty. To address this, Seneca worked with Red Hat and adopted Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Red Hat implemented a standardized open platform for Seneca, and with Red Hat Consulting and Red Hat CloudForms and Red Hat OpenStack Platform, the college built a private cloud to support automation and easier infrastructure management. The results included better performance and stability, no production downtime for the learning management system, and more than CA$100,000 saved in hardware maintenance costs. Red Hat also helped Seneca create a foundation for future cloud and DevOps expansion.
