REWE Implements a Fresh Logistics Solution

REWE Systems, the IT and telecommunications provider for REWE Group, needed a faster way to analyze huge volumes of sales and inventory data for fresh produce ordering across 3,400 supermarkets in Germany. To improve performance, scalability, and stability for this business-critical process, REWE Systems worked with Red Hat and used Red Hat JBoss Data Grid along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform.

Red Hat implemented an in-memory, transaction-enabled solution that lets centrally generated order recommendations reach stores in less than a second and be reviewed on mobile devices. The result was faster analysis, better matching of supply and demand, improved logistics efficiency, and lower operating costs; it also reduced load on DB2/mainframe systems by moving data processing to an IBM x86 cluster.
