Red Hat Gluster Storage Makes the Grade for the University of Basque Country

UPV/EHU, the University of the Basque Country, needed a more scalable and cost-effective storage platform to support 50,000 students, teachers, researchers, and administrators across three campuses. Its existing centralized storage was too expensive and complex for growing teaching and research demands, so the university turned to Red Hat and evaluated Red Hat Gluster Storage as a replacement.

Red Hat implemented Red Hat Gluster Storage with Red Hat Consulting support after a successful proof of concept, adapting the solution to use the university’s existing Intel servers. The new platform now provides 70 terabytes across 4 nodes, improves performance and security, and gives UPV/EHU tight cost control and flexibility for future expansion; researchers are already using it, and the university can now meet requests for 12 to 20 terabytes of storage for projects.
