Red Hat Enterprise Linux Fuels Over $2 Million in Cost Savings for Santos

Santos, a leading Australian oil and gas producer, was struggling with a complex, proprietary IT environment spread across multiple sites. Its teams faced bottlenecks from massive seismic data transfers, high thin-client licensing costs, support and reliability problems, and the need to improve performance without adding new spending.

Red Hat helped Santos replace its proprietary thin-client setup with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, TurboVNC, and VirtualGL, supported by an in-house portal for remote access and collaboration. The new platform delivered faster performance and greater stability, simplified administration, improved security, and enabled more than $2.5 million in savings, while also cutting power use by over 300,000 kWh per year.
