A Red Hat Case Study
Pennsylvania State University needed a more flexible, scalable research computing environment to support diverse workloads across its Advanced CyberInfrastructure program. Working with Red Hat, Penn State upgraded its legacy infrastructure to better serve researchers with varied computing needs, including high-performance computing, virtualized environments, and customizable software stacks.
Red Hat implemented Red Hat CloudForms, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, and Red Hat Satellite, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux standardization and training. The results included 1,100 servers upgraded in four days, 240 blade servers built in 25 minutes, more than 6,000 new cores and 2.5PB of new storage added, improved software quality, less downtime, and faster, more responsive support for researcher demands.
