A Red Hat Case Study
Munich Airport, one of Europe’s busiest passenger airports, was struggling with performance deficits and the high cost of maintaining its UNIX server environment. To address this, the airport turned to Red Hat and adopted Red Hat Enterprise Linux along with Red Hat Satellite and SAP support to modernize its IT platform.
Red Hat implemented a migration to Red Hat Enterprise Linux across mission-critical systems, with external partner support and extensive virtualization on Fujitsu Primergy servers. The results included better performance, simpler administration, stronger operational stability, and significant cost savings; the airport said the first platform phase paid off after just 10 servers and recovered its costs in one year, while about 140 servers were running Red Hat Enterprise Linux by late 2012.
