Monash University Eresearch Centre Improves Research Support with Red Hat CEPH Storage

Monash University’s eResearch Centre in Melbourne needed a more scalable, cost-effective way to support rapidly growing research data demands, but its earlier cloud effort lacked sufficient storage funding and had uncertain performance requirements. Working with Red Hat, the university looked for a software-defined storage approach to support internal and external researchers, collaboration beyond the firewall, and a wide range of data-intensive workloads.

Red Hat helped Monash University deploy Red Hat Ceph Storage on Dell PowerEdge servers, with Red Hat Consulting and Red Hat Training supporting implementation and team enablement. The result was a unified, self-service storage infrastructure that now manages about five petabytes of data and can scale toward seven petabytes, improving flexibility, collaboration, and data protection while avoiding vendor lock-in.
