EMBL EBI Supports Collaborative Research with Red Hat Openstack Platform

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL‑EBI) needed a flexible, scalable way to support its Embassy Cloud platform so researchers worldwide could access, analyze, and share large life-science datasets more easily. Using Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Consulting, EMBL‑EBI aimed to replace its previous VMware-based setup and build an infrastructure capable of handling growing demand for public scientific data.

Red Hat helped EMBL‑EBI deploy and architect the cloud platform, while also training the institute’s staff so they could run it in-house. As a result, EMBL‑EBI improved access to data for global collaboration, increased flexibility and scalability, and expanded the platform from 2,000 to 4,000 cores, with plans to grow to 6,000 cores and 4PB of storage.
