CLIMB Project Supports Research Collaboration with Red Hat Ceph Storage

CLIMB, a collaboration of UK universities supporting medical microbiology research, needed a shared cloud infrastructure to replace fragmented local servers and enable researchers to analyze and share massive datasets. To meet this challenge, CLIMB worked with Red Hat and used Red Hat Ceph Storage alongside RDO OpenStack to provide scalable storage and compute for its research community.

Red Hat implemented a flexible, cloud-ready platform with high-performance object and block storage, supported by Red Hat Consulting during deployment. The result was hundreds of VMs and over 1.5PB of raw object storage per site, faster data sharing across institutions and even global research teams, and a lower cost per terabyte—reported as about half the cost of prior systems at Cardiff University.
