Casio Builds High-Availability Storage with Software and Commodity Servers

Casio, the consumer electronics company behind products like watches, cameras, and handheld devices, was struggling with expensive storage infrastructure and vendor lock-in. It needed a more flexible way to support server virtualization and storage while reducing procurement, maintenance, and operating costs. Casio turned to Red Hat, using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Gluster Storage on commodity IBM System x servers.

Red Hat helped Casio build a software-defined, high-availability storage environment that centralized control of both server and storage resources. The result was a major cost reduction: storage-related costs fell to less than half of previous levels, while also improving flexibility, scalability, and operational control.
