Case Study: Bombay Stock Exchange achieves the world’s fastest trading system with Red Hat

A Red Hat Case Study

Preview of the Bombay Stock Exchange Case Study

BSE builds the world's fastest trading system

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) struggled for years with proprietary trading technologies that limited innovation, scalability, and affordability, making upgrades costly and the legacy system increasingly inefficient. The exchange needed a faster, more flexible platform to keep up with market demands, and turned to Red Hat for an open source solution.

Red Hat helped BSE build its BOLT Plus trading system using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise MRG Realtime, Red Hat Satellite, and Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, with support from Red Hat Consulting and a Red Hat Technical Account Manager. The result was a dramatic improvement in performance and scale: latency dropped from 10 milliseconds to 6 microseconds, order volume grew from 10 million to 400 million orders per day, and total cost of ownership fell by 90%, while staffing needs were reduced from 15 people to 2.
