Bayer Business Services Lowers Cost Achieves Performance

Bayer Business Services, the Bayer Group’s global IT and business services center, needed to cut costs without sacrificing the quality, reliability, or performance of its mission-critical SAP environment. To address rising TCO from its legacy AIX on IBM servers, Bayer Business Services partnered with Red Hat and moved its SAP landscape to Red Hat Enterprise Linux on standards-based x86 servers.

Red Hat implemented the migration in phases, starting with less critical systems and then scaling to higher-performance SAP workloads. The new environment delivered the same SAPS performance as the old platform while reducing procurement and maintenance costs; one HP DL580 G7 system reached about 42,000 SAPS. Overall, Bayer Business Services achieved improved performance at a much lower total cost of ownership with Red Hat.
