A Red Canary Case Study
Hopkins Public Schools, a Minnesota district serving multiple communities and operating a mix of macOS and Windows devices, faced a major shift when COVID-19 moved students and staff offsite—creating a dispersed, hybrid environment they couldn’t fully secure with perimeter defenses. Although they had deployed Jamf Protect for Macs and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for Windows, the district lacked the in-house staff and retained expertise to continuously investigate and remediate alerts. To close that gap they partnered with Red Canary, adopting Red Canary MDR to augment their security operations.
Red Canary ingested telemetry and alerts from Jamf, Microsoft, and other tools, providing around-the-clock detection, threat investigation, and automated playbooks that can isolate machines or create tickets for the team—actions that occur even outside business hours. As a result, Hopkins Public Schools gained 24/7 detection and response coverage without hiring additional full‑time staff, achieved faster remediation via automation, and recovered crucial time and capacity they couldn’t attain with internal staffing alone; they are now expanding data sources sent to Red Canary to further broaden protection.
