A Red Badger Case Study
Red Badger was engaged by Fortnum & Mason to address a critical challenge: the retailer's 300-year reputation for an exceptional in-store experience was not matched by its outdated and inflexible e-commerce site. The platform was difficult to update, caused customer drop-offs during the complex checkout process for international orders, and was resulting in lost revenue that needed to be stemmed quickly.
The solution implemented by Red Badger began with a two-day hackathon to prove the concept. They then built a new, scalable site using Spree Commerce, Wombat, and React, deploying changes multiple times a day. The project, which included extensive customer feedback and in-store testing, was completed in just eight months for under £1.3 million. The results were significant, including a 52% increase in total sales year-on-year, a 77% rise in mobile visits, a 57% increase in mobile conversion rates, and an 18% drop in customer service calls, alongside winning multiple industry awards.
