HubSpot, the Cambridge‑based marketing and sales SaaS company serving 11,000+ customers worldwide, needed to scale billing and operations as it grew. Its existing accounting setup lacked automation, reporting, and customer notifications, forcing staff to track transactions manually and re-enter data — a major bottleneck for onboarding, renewals, and upgrades.
In 2011 HubSpot implemented Recurly and built Java tools that integrate Recurly with NetSuite and Salesforce via APIs and push notifications (an embedded payment tool, a listener, and an importer). The result is an automated, tightly integrated billing engine that activates accounts on payment, synchronizes data across systems, eliminates manual steps, shrinks onboarding from days to minutes, and improves visibility, reporting, and customer support.
