Case Study: Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) prioritizes vulnerabilities to protect Norway’s telecom companies with Recorded Future

A Recorded Future Case Study

Preview of the Nkom Case Study

Recorded Future Intelligence Enables Nkom EkomCERT to Help Norwegian Telecoms Stay Ahead of Industry-Specific Threats

Nkom (the Norwegian Communications Authority) and its EkomCERT team, led by Ole Kristoffer Apeland, needed to identify malicious actors and telecom‑specific vulnerabilities affecting Norway and Scandinavia so their small team could prioritize real threats rather than generic scores. After evaluating vendors, Nkom selected Recorded Future and adopted Recorded Future Vulnerability Intelligence, the Splunk Enterprise integration, Threat and Brand Intelligence, and Insikt Group analyst‑on‑demand services to get the sector- and region‑specific, real‑time intelligence they lacked.

Recorded Future enriched Nkom’s vulnerability feeds in Splunk with contextual and temporal risk scoring, continuously monitored open and dark web sources for indicators of phishing, ransomware, DDoS and credential theft, and supplied targeted analyst research. As a result, Recorded Future enabled Nkom EkomCERT to triage and prioritize vulnerabilities based on likelihood of exploitation, provide early warnings of impending attacks, and help Norwegian telecom companies and government agencies make better, risk‑based decisions about patching and security investments.
