a customer boosts rail computing power by 50% with RECOM Power

A customer in the rail industry sought to upgrade a train's central computing unit, needing more power for a new processor and additional sensors. The challenge was to fit this 60W system into the existing chassis used by a legacy 40W unit while maintaining the same operating temperature range and complying with stringent railway voltage and transient standards. RECOM Power provided the solution.

RECOM implemented its compact, baseplate-cooled 60W DC/DC converter alongside a surge-protection module. This solution delivered 50% more power in a smaller footprint than the old 40W unit, freeing PCB space for other components. The high-efficiency design reduced thermal losses, and the integrated modules ensured full compliance with rail standards including EN 50155 and protection against high-voltage transients.
