University of York Students’ Union (YUSU) - Customer Case Study

The University of York Students’ Union (YUSU) represents over 18,000 students and supports 200+ societies, and needed to ensure its online communications were accessible to a hugely diverse student body. To provide language and accessibility support across its website, YUSU implemented the Recite Me assistive technology toolbar.

Recite Me’s toolbar delivers text-to-speech, on-screen translation in over 100 languages, styling controls (font type/size and colours), and an online dictionary and thesaurus, letting visitors customise the site to their needs. YUSU says the Recite Me toolbar has been “a brilliant addition,” taking them closer to making services and information accessible to more students, with measurable capabilities such as 100+ language translations and configurable accessibility settings.
