Poughkeepsie Public Library District - Customer Case Study

Poughkeepsie Public Library District, which serves over 75,000 residents across the City and Town of Poughkeepsie, needed to make its redesigned website more accessible—especially for a large Spanish-speaking community and patrons with disabilities (16.25% foreign-born, just over 14% identifying with a disability). The library discovered Recite Me through Dutchess County’s Think Differently site and sought a translation and accessibility solution for its online services.

Recite Me was implemented on the library’s website to provide multiple translation options (including Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, French and Korean) plus accessibility tools such as audio narration, screen masks, color themes and adjustable fonts. The solution broadened online access for non-English speakers and users with visual or reading difficulties, directly addressing the district’s demographic needs, and staff praise the translation and font-size features as especially valuable.
