MiR deploys 800+ AMRs with RealSense

MIR, a manufacturer of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), faced significant challenges enabling its robots to safely navigate complex industrial environments. Obstacles like low-lying objects, non-standard pallets, and varying conditions compromised navigation and safety. To achieve full autonomy, MIR needed a perception solution from RealSense that could understand irregular 3D environments in real time and reliably avoid obstacles.

RealSense addressed this by providing its D457 3D depth cameras, which were integrated into MIR's multi-sensor system. This solution enabled true real-time perception, object recognition, and proactive safety. The results allowed MIR's RealSense-enabled AMRs to operate safely in diverse settings like warehouses and hospitals, with one customer deploying over 800 robots. Specific deployments, such as at Odense University Hospital where robots logged over 8,000 km without incident, demonstrated exceptional reliability and operational efficiency, with another customer achieving an estimated annual ROI of €100,000.
