The Northeast Tennessee Media Group, which runs the Kingsport Times-News and Johnson City Press, was struggling with outdated and restrictive recruitment ad rules that limited online-only sales and kept their two nearby newspapers operating separately. The result was about $10,000 in monthly new revenue, or roughly $120,000 in new revenue for the year, with some ads reaching $10,000 packages and a growing resume database of more than 24,000 local resumes.
