A Really Great Reading Case Study
Wayne-Westland Community Schools faced a challenge with fragmented literacy instruction, using over 100 different tools across PreK-5 classrooms without a shared instructional model. This inconsistency limited student growth, and district leaders recognized the need for stronger Tier 1 instruction. They partnered with Really Great Reading and implemented its Literacy Suite to unify their approach.
By aligning structured literacy instruction with Really Great Reading, the district achieved significant results. Within two months, 97% of teachers reported literacy gains. Grade 5 decoding proficiency increased from 30% to 85% in one school year. The solution also extended beyond scores, with 97% of teachers reporting they enjoyed using the program and 90% feeling prepared by its training, which reduced the district's reliance on Tier 2 and 3 interventions.
