Prince George’s County School District reduces reading failure risk by 65% with Really Great Reading

Prince George’s County School District faced a significant early literacy challenge, with many of its first-grade students entering the school year significantly below benchmark expectations and at risk for long-term reading failure. The district needed a more structured and consistent approach to foundational reading instruction to strengthen decoding skills and improve student outcomes. They partnered with Really Great Reading to address this challenge.

By implementing Really Great Reading's structured literacy intervention program, which included explicit routines, targeted intervention, and data-informed instruction, the district achieved remarkable results. In just one school year, the risk of reading failure among first-grade students dropped from 84% to 19%, and benchmark reading proficiency increased from 11% to 67%.
