A Really Great Reading Case Study
In partnership with Really Great Reading, the Mississippi Reading Clinic addressed the challenge of supporting seventh-grade students in Jackson, Mississippi, who were significantly below grade level in reading. These struggling adolescent readers had weak foundational decoding skills, which made reading slow and effortful, negatively impacting their fluency, comprehension, and overall confidence.
Really Great Reading provided a targeted structured literacy intervention solution focused on explicit decoding instruction. After five weeks and 675 minutes of this instruction, students demonstrated a 61% increase in reading accuracy, improving from 31% to 92%. The solution also successfully boosted reading confidence and engagement, with 100% of students requesting continued literacy support.
