A Really Great Reading Case Study
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD faced a challenge with inconsistent dyslexia support across its secondary campuses. Foundational reading skills were missing in students who had already received years of intervention, which limited their progress. The district partnered with Really Great Reading to implement a more consistent and measurable approach to its secondary dyslexia services.
Really Great Reading provided structured literacy intervention focused on decoding, fluency, and word recognition. This solution, which utilized tools like the Diagnostic Decoding Survey and Grouping Matrix, was supported by professional learning for educators. The results were significant; the district increased middle school decoding proficiency by 37 percentage points in one semester, with one cohort rising from 3.7% to 40.7% meeting expectations. By midyear, 40% of students in a high school cohort met strong decoding benchmarks after starting the year significantly below expectations.
