CBR, the central driver’s license office in the Netherlands, needed a reliable way to verify identities and detect document fraud during more than 800,000 annual theory and practical exams. Even with trained staff, employees sometimes faced unclear residence cards, look-alike fraud, and situations where they could not fully trust the authenticity of an identity document on sight. To support their checks, CBR turned to ReadID, using its client-only app for additional identity verification.

With ReadID, CBR employees can scan the NFC chip in an identity document to instantly view a clearer photo and confirm whether the document matches the candidate, even at desks or on location. The solution is easy to use, works on company phones, and does not store data, supporting privacy by design. As a result, CBR staff gained greater confidence in their decisions, identified several look-alike fraud cases, and in those instances stopped the exams and referred the cases to police.
