SK ID Solutions, an Estonian qualified trust service provider behind the popular Smart-ID mobile identity solution, needed a fully automated remote identification process to replace many required office visits for onboarding. The challenge was to meet strict eIDAS compliance and “high” Level of Assurance requirements while scaling Smart-ID issuance for millions of users. ReadID provided the identity verification technology used in the solution.

ReadID helped SK ID Solutions implement NFC-based identity document verification with liveness detection and facial recognition inside the Smart-ID app, using ReadID SaaS and SDKs. The new process was internationally audited, approved by the Estonian supervisory authority, and proven compliant for qualified certificates. It reduced onboarding to just a few minutes, worked on both Android and iOS, enabled 24/7 digital issuance at lower cost, and created logged proof of verification.
