Saving Space and Time through Warehouse Optimization

The Container Store faced a major logistics challenge when it consolidated into a new 1.1 million-square-foot distribution center that was roughly 80% larger than its previous facility and needed to maintain—and improve—productivity and travel times. To design the DC, specify equipment and integrate systems, The Container Store partnered with Malin Integrated Handling Solutions, an authorized Raymond Sales and Service Center, and leveraged products and services from The Raymond Corporation (including Raymond Deep-Reach® trucks and CustomCare™ optimization).

Malin and The Raymond Corporation implemented a full-system solution: redesigned racking and slotting (double-deep racking), supplied a fleet of 51 Raymond lift trucks (Deep-Reach trucks, Model 5500 orderpickers, Model 8600 tow tractors, pallet and counterbalanced trucks), and provided daily preventive maintenance under the Raymond Asset Protection™ program. The changes increased pallet positions, reduced travel time, improved equipment uptime, and delivered a measurable ~30% improvement in process time since 2004 while preserving efficiency in the much larger facility.
