NoSQL Distributed Database as a Game-Changer for a Taxi Booking Platform

Sneleentaxi, a Dutch taxi-booking platform, runs a two-sided machine-learning marketplace where riders request trips and nearby drivers compete in real-time reverse auctions. Faced with surging demand during the 2020 lockdowns and the need to migrate from a monolith to a distributed, highly available system that integrates tightly with their .NET/C# stack, they chose RavenDB — a NoSQL distributed database (document, key-value, graph, time-series) to meet their performance and scaling requirements.

RavenDB delivered a distributed NoSQL platform with seamless .NET integration, automatic indexes for real-time route and pricing calculations, and ETL tools to ease migration and cluster expansion. As a result RavenDB now powers Sneleentaxi’s production database holding millions of documents, supports frequent real-time transactions (about one every three minutes), sped up scaling per the CTO’s report that it “saves a lot of valuable time,” and improved availability and failover as Sneleentaxi expands into MaaS and partner integrations.
