NoSQL Database Helping Millions of African Cashew Farmers

Amberwood Trading, led by CEO and developer Jeremy Holt, faced a fragmented cashew supply chain in West Africa where missing documentation, poor quality controls, and opaque paper trails blocked financing and slowed exports. To digitalize transactions and build trust between farmers, exporters, buyers, banks and inspectors, Amberwood adopted RavenDB — using RavenDB’s document NoSQL database (and RavenDB Cloud instances) with vendor-provided free instances and support to underpin their new application.

Using RavenDB, Amberwood built a single-screen application that stores JSON document records and file attachments, provides ACID transactions across distributed clusters, and gives all parties real-time visibility into document status. RavenDB’s attachments, global deployment and automatic failover enabled low-latency access and >99.99% availability; Amberwood set up in about 10 minutes and the system cut roughly three weeks off the typical transaction timeline, accelerating payments, boosting liquidity across the chain, and simplifying operations for farmers and buyers.
