Case Study: Tended App achieves worry-free date nights with RavenDB

A RavenDB Case Study

How Tended App startup used the RavenDB database to develop the Tended App application

Tended App, a startup created by Ryan Rounkles to help parents share detailed medical checklists and care routines with babysitters and family, needed a reliable, low-maintenance backend that could run on phones and sync across multiple devices. To solve that challenge the team used RavenDB — embedding its document store and cluster synchronization capabilities so they could focus on the app instead of schema, migrations, or complex backend infrastructure.

RavenDB was implemented as an embedded distributed database with device-to-device synchronization, built-in authentication/permissions, and replication of alerts (e.g., configurable 15‑minute reminders that stop when completed). The result was a simple, robust networked app that let parents confidently leave their child in a caregiver’s care (the founders celebrated their first date in 18 months and by the third drove 30 minutes away), reduced reliance on multiple paid services (Ryan estimated at least two additional services would have been required otherwise), and lowered complexity and points of failure — all powered by RavenDB.
