How Fintech Developer TSWG Uses a NoSQL Document Database

TSWG, an Australian fintech services company (The System Works) that builds digital banking and lending platforms, faced growing performance and transactional demands for its Digital Play Banking application. After finding Microsoft SQL’s relational joins too slow for mobile and high-volume access, TSWG adopted RavenDB, a NoSQL document database, to meet requirements for speed, scalability and ACID transaction guarantees.

RavenDB replaced fragmented relational reads with single-document access, a 4-node replicated cluster, and ETL replication to relational systems for analytics, allowing TSWG to process over a quarter billion transactions in six years with no data issues. RavenDB’s performance (capable of ~1 million reads and 150,000 writes per second) gave TSWG faster user responses, reduced developer overhead, and real-time business metrics while maintaining transactional safety.
