Student Mental Health Emergencies Using Custom Mobile Safety Apps to Save Lives

Dalhousie University, a large public research university in Nova Scotia, Canada, faced the challenge of responding quickly to student mental health emergencies across its four campuses and more than 20,000 enrolled students. The case study notes that these situations can require immediate intervention and trained personnel, but the right contacts are not always easy to reach in time.

Rave Mobile Safety provided the AppArmor custom mobile safety app, called DalSAFE, which included campus mental health resources, emergency contacts, and click-to-call access. In one incident, a university security team member used the app to contact the police mobile crisis team, who were on scene within minutes, helping ensure the student received immediate help.
