Informing the Community of Impending Weather and Other Emergencies at the University of Vermont

The University of Vermont, a 460‑acre campus with over 11,000 students and 4,600 staff, faced the challenge of rapidly informing a dispersed, outdoors-focused community about fast-changing New England weather and other emergencies while meeting Clery Act reporting needs. To address this, the university turned to Rave Mobile Safety and its Rave Alert emergency notification service.

Rave Mobile Safety deployed Rave Alert so UVM’s Emergency Management team and police department can send targeted, multi-channel alerts to cell phones, desktops and other devices in seconds, reaching more than 15,600 people across campus. The system has been used to warn students of a −50°F wind‑chill—helping keep people off campus during dangerous conditions—while improving incident coordination, regulatory reporting, and overall confidence in the university’s emergency communications.
