How a Text Stopped a School Shooting

The University of South Florida (51,000+ students; 15,000+ faculty and staff) faced rising concerns about active shooter incidents and needed a fast, reliable way to gather anonymous tips from its community. Rave Mobile Safety’s Rave Eyewitness, part of the Rave911 Suite, provided a two‑way text messaging platform that lets students and staff anonymously report crimes or suspicious activity via mobile phone.

Using Rave Mobile Safety’s Rave Eyewitness, USF Campus Police received an anonymous tip about a student with a .25‑caliber pistol in a dorm; the platform enabled officers to identify and locate the student, confiscate the weapon and make an arrest. The measurable impact: a single text led directly to intervention, prevented a school shooting and ensured no one was hurt.
